Step 1
To start, cut a newspaper in half along the central crease. Fold the sheet in half as shown.
Step 2
Next, fold the sheet in half the other way. This will be the midline.
Step 3
Crease the fold.
Step 4
Open the newspaper up. Position the fold at the top and the open edge towards yourself.
Step 5
Fold the top corner to the midline to form a triangle. Crease the fold.
Step 6
Repeat with the other side.
Step 7
Take the top layer of the newspaper and fold it so it meets the bottom of the triangle sections.
Step 8
Fold the same section again so it overlaps the triangle sections. Crease the fold.
Step 9
Flip the newspaper over on the other side.
Step 10
Fold the right section over to the midline.
Step 11
Repeat with the left side.
Step 12
Next, bring the bottom section of the newspaper up to meet the folded section.
Step 13
Crease the fold.
Step 14
Fold over again and crease.
Step 15
Open the folds you just created.
Step 16
Tuck the bottom of the paper underneath the folded section as shown.
Step 17
Almost there! Your project should look like a miniature newspaper hat.
Step 18
Tuck your fingers into the bottom of the newspaper. With your other hand, begin to fold over the peak as shown.
Step 19
As your bottom hand pushes the paper open, four corners will form the bottom of the box. Finish folding the peak towards one corner and crease.
Step 20
Turn the box over. You're ready to plant!
Step 21
Fill the box will soil almost up to the top.
Step 22
Add 2-4 seeds.
Step 23
Cover with a layer of additional soil according to the instructions on the package.
Step 24
Label your seedlings and find a sunny spot for them to grow. For easy watering, place the boxes in a shallow container and add a half inch of water when the newspaper is dry.
Step 25
Check the back of your seed package for the number of days until germination. You can expect to see your seedlings pop up around then. When the danger of frost has passed, poke holes in the bottom of the seed box and plant it right into your garden!
